The body of your INFINITI G20 sedan is made up of many parts. Most are thin panels comprised of metal, plastic, or fiberglass. They help protect you during accidents, they keep weather and debris out of your cabin, and they shield internal mechanical and electrical components, staving off corrosion in the process. They sometimes even improve aerodynamics.
Types of Car Body Parts
Hoods and hood panels, for instance, are hinged engine covers, while decklids are hinged trunk panels. Bumpers, however, are front- and rear-end attachments that absorb impact force during collisions. Cowl screens, though, cover air intakes, while cowl panels both cover windshield wipers and protect the cowl from rainwater, debris, and other hazards.
Fascia, for another example, is everything from the headlights and grille (the lighting held in place by header panels) to the front bumper, plus other surface treatments. Quarter panels, on the other hand, are those welded between the rear doors and trunk. Rear panels are located between the rear bumper and quarter panels.
Other examples yet include fenders, which frame wheel wells and help keep tires from kicking muck up into the underbody. Pillars, however, are vertical or nearly vertical supports for the car window area. Spoilers, though, cut down on air resistance. They're usually one of two types: up front, an air dam or deflector, or, in back, a wing. Their job is to smooth out the drive. Last but not least, trim is basically decoration, the parts that give a vehicle's body a more stylish look.
Internal body parts range just as widely. Stamped metal rockers are just one example. They run along a vehicle's sides, between its wheel wells, and their job is critical. It's to help to keep the front and rear ends from separating.
