As the engine in your INFINITI G35 runs, it generates heat -- a lot of it. The engine's radiator, part of a greater cooling system, helps keep it from overheating.
How it does so is a process that starts with liquid coolant (commonly called antifreeze). The fluid travels between inlet and outlet hoses, with help from a water pump. As it moves, it traps that heat. A radiator cap pressurizes the liquid as it goes, and when heat absorption is at maximum, a set of fins releases the heat, while a fan helps scatter it. As a result, your engine keeps working as well as it can, and an engine that runs right lasts longer.
Unfortunately, though, no radiators last indefinitely. Sometimes, they just go bad, causing other problems in the process, like heating and air conditioning malfunctions and engine failure. Fortunately, the signs you've got a bad radiator -- weird engine noises, radiator fin damage, gooey antifreeze, sweet, syrup-like smells -- are fairly easy to spot. The last is ethylene glycol; it usually indicates a coolant leak. Of course, if your sedan's temperature sensor's needle or digital display reads hot, it can mean complete radiator failure. In any case, a careful inspection of your radiator is recommended.
