Brake rotors are one of the three main parts of the brake system in an INFINITI G37. More specifically, they're discs that attach to the car's wheel hubs via ribs. What they do is fasten to the brakes' calipers and brake pads, creating the friction the car needs to slow and stop. They also help get rid of the excess heat of the braking process.

There are four types. The first is blank & smooth, otherwise called smooth. There are designed for everyday driving; many cars use them. They're relatively easy on brake pads, they resist cracking and rust, and they're low-cost. The second is slotted. Many SUVs and trucks use these. They're designed to improve airflow and channel away dust and debris better. The third is drilled, otherwise called cross-drilled. They're better at dissipating heat, more dependable in wet driving conditions, and ideal for use both on the track and when towing. The fourth is drilled & slotted. Some sports cars and other performance vehicles use them. They combine many of the best features of slotted and drilled rotors.

If you're wondering when you should replace them, do so every 70,000 miles or so, or when you start seeing the signs they're either going bad or have failed. Those symptoms include:

  • Rotor surface damage
  • Wobbly brakes
  • Unusual noises during braking

Seeing any? Do an inspection and change any that you have to. Do it in pairs, too. It'll keep your car braking as well as it can. And if you're looking to order new brake rotors, our auto parts store is your online source.
