All You Need to Know About INFINITI M35 Brake Rotors

What They are

They're one of the three main parts of the disc brake system in your luxury sedan. Put simply, they're the discs, which attach to the car's wheel hubs via ribs.

What They Do

They fasten to the brake pads atop brake calipers, creating the friction the car needs to slow down and come to a stop. They also help rid the brakes of the excess heat produced in the process.

What Types There are

  • Blank & smooth, otherwise called smooth: designed for everyday driving, relatively easy on brake pads, resistant to cracking and rust, and low-cost; many cars use them.
  • Slotted: designed to improve airflow, and channel away dust and debris better; many SUVs use them.
  • Drilled, otherwise called cross-drilled: better heat dissipators, more reliable in wet weather, and ideal for both track driving and towing.
  • Drilled & slotted: combine many of the best features of both slotted and drilled rotors; some sports cars and performance SUVs use them.

When You Should Replace Them

Approximately every 70,000 miles. Otherwise, do so when you start to see the signs they're either going bad or they've failed. Those symptoms include:

  • Damaged rotor surfaces
  • Wobbling when braking
  • Unusual noises as you brake

If you see any, do a brake rotor inspection and change whichever are problematic. Do it in pairs as well. It'll keep the car you love braking as well as it can. If you're looking to order new ones, our auto parts store is the right place to do it.
