What They Do

They fasten to the brake pads atop brake calipers, creating the friction the car needs to slow down and come to a stop. They also help rid the brakes of the excess heat produced in the process.

What Types There are

When You Should Replace Them

Approximately every 70,000 miles. Otherwise, do so when you start to see the signs they're either going bad or they've failed. Those symptoms include:

Damaged rotor surfaces
Wobbling when braking
Unusual noises as you brake
