Every INFINITI has a water pump. What does it do? It moves water from the radiator through the engine and back again. The benefit? The process helps an engine stay at the right temperature for functioning as best it can, whatever the weather. This, in turn, helps keep engines from overheating. How does the water pump in your INFINITI work? First, water travels from your radiator through your motor, heating up as it goes. Your water pump is what returns the liquid to the radiator, where it cools off again. The process repeats. More specifically, in most INFINITI models today, the engine turns the water pump's belt, which then spins its axle. The axle movement is what creates suction, the vacuum effect necessary to pull the water out of the radiator. When water reaches the pump, centrifugal force drives it against the pump's outer walls. Then, it heads down a drain into the engine block, where it goes through the cylinder heads and drains back into the radiator. Unfortunately, water pumps can fail as they age. Luckily, there are many signs.

What are the Symptoms of a Water Pump Going Bad?

They include a lit temperature warning light, a low coolant warning light, coolant leaks, a loose water pump pulley, and low grinding noises when your engine runs. If you're seeing any of these, run an inspection. If you need a replacement, you can buy a genuine INFINITI water pump right from your OEM via our auto parts counter. Order today!
